Holiday Party

an early shout out…

‘Tis the season… for holiday parties.

Of course, I’m having mine again.

Well, to say it’s mine is overstating, but it is at my house.

If you’ve been before, I’m sure I’ll see you again, and if you haven’t, you should try to check it out this year.

The website isn’t totally put together yet, but here it is, so that you can fix your schedule so you can make it.

If you’re reading this, consider yourself invited.
Bring a friend.
Bring a shot-block beverage.

(There are a few out there who feigned injury because others received a hard-invite before they had. They need to suck it up and realize that there will be 200 people invited before them, and 200 after. It’s not your order in receiving the invitation that gives you your measure, it’s what you make of the information.)

‘Nother Friday

Well, what was an I-guess-I’ll-make-it-an-early-night turned into a late night of club hopping.

I started at the Continental Club for the Light Rock Express happy hour. Molly & the Ringwalds picked up a private gig, so they were the stand-ins. It was fun to watch peoples’ reactions as they came in. I think they should do a tour of Holiday Inns in the 713 and 281.

Before I left the CC, I listened to a bit of The El Orbit’s new Holiday Album (cover art by Beans Barton). It’s a fun and good CD. Many family members can expect it for Xmas. Pete said it’s the second full-length Christmas CD he’s recorded. We were wondering how many musicians had done that. (Someone do the research for me).

I then headed over to Rudyard’s for the Starr Project performances. Continue reading

random weekend

after installing awnings at the CC, it ended up that Steve W is getting married in a week, so there was a bachelor party…

We started at Brenner’s (edit: Brennen’s) Steak House.  Had a large table outside under the gazebo.  Totally nice night.  Very excellent.  Bob S. had preordered the wine, which was an amazing Cab – which I of course now totally forget the name of.  It had to be special ordered, and our wine waitress was highly impressed by our choice (we gave her a small glass).

The food was AMAZING.  Bob ordered a bunch of appetizers and side orders that were placed all over the table.  The crab cake was AMAZING.  I also had – lobster bisque, fillet mignon, and asparagus.  Stuffed my face, was totally satisfied.

Went back to the top suite in the old Red Lion Inn, someone knew the people who bought it off them and we got the room for a song.  Most the guys went down to Treasures for a while, I stayed in the room with a few others.  We ended up there till 5 a.m. or somesuch.

My car’s still at the CC. Must pick it up today.

Truckstop Honeymoon

Truckstop Honeymoon opened up for Split Lip Rayfield last night at the CC.  A two piece hillbilly bluegrass band.  Washtub bass, and banjo.  I enjoyed them thouroughly.  Katie was 8 months pregnant.

Truckstop Honeymoon

“THERE AIN’T NOTHING NICE ABOUT TRUCKSTOP HONEYMOON. THEY PLAY BANJOS AND WASH TUBS. THEY SING HELL-BENT SONGS ABOUT JESUS AND ADULTERY. THEY SING FROM THEIR STOMACHS.

TRUCKSTOP HONEYMOON PLAY BREAK-NECK BREAKDOWNS OR WALTZS. THEIR MUSIC IS LIKE A DODGE WITH A BURNT OUT CLUTCH: IT HAS TWO SPEEDS AND NO REVERSE.

Alive Again

so after a week of forced horizontalness from icky sickness, i actualy went to pseudo work (Continental Club) today, and then after a large fast food (ick) dinner, and hot shower briefly crashed out while listening to NPR ATC/Marketplace,

got an odd call from a friend, down the street with many others, casualing at Onion Creek, walked down intending to have 2 beers and go home, i was very sensitive to the smoke (still recovering) even outside as we were.  of course chatted up with friends for five hours (so i had 4 beers) and then walked back home, sleep soon,

re: Continental Club – all the windows have been tinted, you cannot see in (mostly) during daylight or at night (‘cept for some bright lights (neon) at night), took all the bars out of the windows (briefly) and replaced them, so we finally got to the window box at the front of the club, it’s been in sad state for three years, we actually put a front on it and painted the front, and sanded and putty’d the surface, soon to be eurythaned

also, the exterior of the building was pressure washed last week, first time since,… it was built likely, the back especially looks good, but the brick front looks nicer, as well.
