Donna

So, when you receive a MySpace friend request from “Donna” who doesn’t have a picture, and lives in another state, and who’s only friend is “Tom”, what do you do?

No PhotoYes. And I was just about to delete the invitation, but I noticed some oddities. She wasn’t 18 or 21 or 26, like most MySpace spam, but 41.

And she’s in Geismar, Louisiana. That sounded vaguely familiar, so I looked it up. Suburb of Baton Rouge.

Hmm, I actually know a Donna of that age that lives in the suburbs of the Red Stick. I guess I’ll give her a day or two to put any identifying information onto her account.

But Donna, MySpace is so 2004. Where’s your FaceBook account?

Keys, Where oh Where

sketchI had the odd and uncommon experience of not being able to find my keys Wednesday morning. I checked the two spots I normally leave them. Then checked again. Then the five expanded places I might leave them.

I tried to recall what exactly I did with them when I came home – to no avail.

I walked out to the car, peered into the ignition. No luck. Went back in the house to check again. Got as far as the dining room, and froze. I had seen something. Something in the last twenty paces.

I rewound it in my head, saw the dangling orange Texas that had been an inch above my hand when I walked back in the door.

Tuesday when I arrived home from work, a day after boardgaming in the Hill Country with friends, there was a package obstructing my door. The game I had purchased the week before. My hands being full, after I got the door unlocked and grabbed everything I kicked it open and entered.

I returned and closed the door, forgetting the keys. They spent the night.

Themes in the Ether

This weekend I spent the weekend in Wimberley, Texas. One of the boardgames someone wanted to play was Goa – a trading game themed on the historically important region of India. But it’s a four-player game and we had five people, so it never got played. Perikles.jpgAnother that was high on the list and did get played was Perikles – by well-know boardgame designer (yes, there are a few), Martin Wallace.

On the return trip I listened to the NPR Puzzle podcast from the previous weekend. Will Shortz had just returned from some sort of puzzle tournament in Goa. The on-air puzzle was categories in C-H-A-M-P, and plays by Shakespeare was one of them. Can you name a P- play by Shakespeare?

Twenty Year Old T-shirt

tshirt.jpgWell, I finally threw away this t-shirt that I’ve had for over twenty years. It was a gift from a girl friend. She made them and sold them on the Drag to pay for her college.

It’s a long sleeved shirt, so I’ve mostly used it as an undershirt during the past winters.

But too many holes mean it has to go. Such is life.

(I’m sure there are several people who will be happy to know that I’m purging one over-worn shirt, because you know I have dozens.)

Wash That Mouth Out With Soap

flavorI bought some bargain bin bubble bath at the drug store. It’s 3•in•1: also shampoo (uh, no thanks) and body wash (I have a bar of soap).

But the most super special thing about this product: its

“NEW! FLAVOR!”

I can’t speak for its taste, but it does have a nice Jolly Rancher smell.
