I guess it’s been off my numismatic radar, but a few days ago I ended up with two shiny pennies with new reverse sides (the obverse side is the same it’s been since 1909). Using as an excuse the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth, they have create four new images to put on the reverse. Look for them in a pocket near you.
This all leads me to wonder how much longer the penny will endure.
Spring is already on show in Houston. A particularly warm day in February brought out the wood sorrel, which hangs around for a few months, showing itself on warm days. There are so many species of Oxalis that I’m not even going to attempt to identify this one. It does much better in the parts of the yard that don’t get as much foot traffic.
Everyone needs a souvenir at an inauguration. Which one will you choose?
Something just struck me as humorous as I walked by this mostly full board of inauguration souvenir buttons in 1997.

I was cleaning out my overburdened in-box and came across an old email from Kim. A photo of a rat snake they found while doing yard work at her mother-in-law’s place in Palacios, Texas. It’s a quite impressive snake.
Palacious is on the Tres Palacios Bay, a small inlet off of the Matagorda Bay, and is about half way between Houston and Corpus Christi.
I bought some bargain bin bubble bath at the drug store. It’s 3•in•1: also shampoo (uh, no thanks) and body wash (I have a bar of soap).
But the most super special thing about this product: its
“NEW! FLAVOR!”
I can’t speak for its taste, but it does have a nice Jolly Rancher smell.
