plastic bag nightmare 004

Twice today as I commuted I saw cars with plastic bags entwined beneath them. Yes, your US$50,000 car looks very nice. Just like your new pair of heals with toilet paper hanging off of them.

What’s wrong with us? Minimally we need to start taking the bags back to the stores and leaving them there.

Cities have banned them, and some stores have stopped using them.

Have you ever walked close to the bayous in Houston? They are by far this biggest wash-off problem. And they get tangled high in the trees for that year round enjoyment.

Salon.com tells me they’re killing us.

Maybe I’ll wean myself from them. Hopefully before I suffocate.

Skate Joust in the ‘Hood

fall

Only a few blocks to walk, plus a stop for beer on the way. A lovely sunny and brisk January afternoon. Weapons plus skates plug gravity.

The Urban Animals’ long held tradition of a Skate Joust.

Jay showed up toward the end and got a few photos.

Chase the link on the picture and you can see the rest of mine.

Shade: Monk Fish

ShadeLogo.pngYum.

Duvel.
Pan sautéed monk fish.
Crab stuffed calamari.
Purple finger potatoes.
Diced vegetable medley.

It’s not on the regular menu, so I couldn’t grab the description off their web site. Thanks for dinner, mom.

Benjamin Franklin on Houston

During my morning benefactorial reading of Benjamin Franklin Wit and Wisdom, I came across the following passage.

After three days men grow weary of a wench, a guest, and weather rainy.

As is typical, yesterday was nice and clear blue skies after one day of gray and one day of rain. The gray is back again today, but i’d wager not for long.

Like the weather, guests in Houston don’t typically stay for longer than three days (a friend will be here for three in January).

MOB Offends Okies

Rice LogoThe chron reports (if you want to call it that) that the MOB is apologizing again. This time for calling an ex-coach a douche bag and intimating that Tulsa is in hell.

Boo hoo. I guess Tulsa alumni are the last little piggie.

Avant Garden

I went to a happy hour on Tuesday at Avant Garden.  It’s the old Helios at 411 Westheimer.  It’s had quite a bit of going over and is somewhat of a snazzy place.  If you’re looking for a place to have a drink with a friend, I highly suggest it.

Upstairs, outside on the patio, or in the entry room.  All nicely casual, and loungy.
