I used to use peerflix.com to get DVDs, but I got busy at one point, and didn’t have time to watch the movies I was receiving. So, I let the account go stagnant. They threatened to remove my account for inactivity, and though I can still login, the account page is all wonky.
When I emptied out my 300 carousel DVD player after it broke, I re-discovered all the forgotten movies. The trick is none of them have containers for me to put them in (unlike the CDs which I had in four 100 CD albums).
Watched - If you want to borrow, let me know.
- The Girl in Lovers Lane - 1959, black and white, almost watchable
- The Manchurian Candidate - wide screen and “standard” - 1962, Frank Sinatra, Janet Leigh, classic
- Paycheck - Ben Afflec, Uma Thurman
- Die Another Day - Pierce Brosnan Bond, 2 discs
- Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle - excellent, I really need to see the second one
- Anchorman
- Free Enterprise - an indie geek romantic comedy about two trekkies who meet a messed up William Shatner, funny, with an insane number of sci-fi, comic book, and movie culture references
Unwatched - When will I find the time? Tell me which ones to watch first.
- Y Tu Mamá También
- Everything is Illumated
- Se7en - 2 discs
- Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
- A History of Violence
- Spanglish
- Yes
- Syriana
- Paradise Now
- Nine Lives
- True Romance - unrated directors cut, 2 discs, started to watch and didn’t like
- Capote
I had also received a copy of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King via swaptree.com but it didn’t play on my old DVD player, it’s quite scratched up. When I was re-boxing all of the other DVDs, I put it in the new player on a whim figuring it might have better oversampling/correction. Indeed, the $50 player had no problem at all with the disc!
Unfortunately, I put this classically epic movie in after 10 pm on a week night and at 1 am had to turn it off with over an hour left.

I have an over-large expensive 301 disc DVD/CD player. But it’s fairly old (no HDMI output). The Pioneer DV-F727 got slightly flaky before it stopped working all together.
Some investigation showed that the mechanism to spin the disc is what failed. With all the other moving parts I thought it would have been something else.
Of course, I have the 3rd season of Battlestar Gallactica borrowed and was in no state to be DVD-less (sure, no hot water still, but I can manage). I went to the Target, they didn’t have the one on the shelf I wanted (for $80), so I got the $50 RCA DRC277. It’s tiny. And it upscales for HDMI output, not that I’ll need it anytime soon - my receiver doesn’t manage that format, either.
After some cabling troubleshooting, I finished off the 3rd season. Now I have to wait till the current season is over and for sale.
Also, Pioneer wins over RCA for website customer support!

The Compressor/Condensor for my air conditioner has been running for over 36 hours straight. I haven’t been able to determine what the cause might be. When I turn the A/C off, or run only the fan, the compressor still runs (and cools with the fan).
I cut the power to the compressor for a while, and then back on. It still runs continually. Annoying.
The tree guy finally came and righted my rose bush on Sunday. Four guys couldn’t get it up. They had to tie a rope to it, run it over the house and to the street. Pulling it with their pick-up truck. Then it took over and hour to attach it.

My Friday and Saturday were true to form of many past years, centering on South Congress and socialization more than music. Though there were some notable music acts, still. I’ll try to transcribe my notes soon.
I’m back in Houston, back to work, dealing with some wind damage, (cancelled plans for tonight), doing laundry, and tomorrow a Gogol Bordello show, not to mention three podcasts in the can that I need to edit.
So, following busy with busy.

Yes, you should not let those with sensitive ears read this blog.
Once again my phone is not working. The DSL’s been sucking for hours - about 5pm on Saturday evening. I finally tried the phone and it’s dead. So, I go outside and unplug the house, and plug an analog phone into the line. It still doesn’t work. The line is totally dead. That the DSL will load a web page in 10-20 minutes is a technological miracle.
Of course, I call them, press a hundred buttons answering a hundred automated questions, before the test the line, leave out the information that “yes our line is fucked up”, and say, i kid you not, “your line will be fixed on Monday, between 8am and 7pm”.
My favorite combo:
“If the reason you’re calling is that you have no dial tone, press 1.”
1
“Are you currently calling from the effected number? If yes, press 1, if no press 2.”
2
“Is this effecting all of your hand sets? If yes, press 1,…”

Thank you for assuming I’m a dumb ass AT&T, because I certainly assumed the same of you.
So, no paying my bills this weekend. No doing my taxes this weekend. At least I got in most of the blog updating I was doing today.
This is the third time my phone and/or DSL has gone down in the last two months. Once out four days BECAUSE THEY DISCONNECTED IT!
Homicide is in my heart.

Pushed to the back on one of the lower shelves in the refrigerator was one of my larger tupperware containers. I mean tupperware in a kleenex or vaseline sense, some form of plastic sealing item, likely not Tupperware®.
It had some kind of meat and rice substance I likely made in the crock pot ages ago. But now it’s gone, and I one again have use of the massive container. Whatever shall I make six servings of now? Any I mean six American servings, which breaks down to about 15 servings as measured by the calorie counters.
