Tim Russert, 1950 – 2008

58 doesn’t seem that old (and it isn’t) when you’re sitting here with your age starting with a 4.  Droping dead at work, hard to believe. So many people survive heart attacks these days; it’s hard to believe a witnessed one can be fatal. Here’s the reminder.

Here’s Tim from a month ago, speaking what was obvious to many while invisible to many others:

The two party system has pretty much monopolized national presidential elections. Ross Perot was the only candidate that was a viable 3rd party and he lost. It’s sad but voting for a 3rd party is nearly throwing your vote away. Better to choose the lesser of two evils. I say that because if you witnessed the FISA vote today, you would have seen that 105 democrats voted for it. Pathetic. As for the Green party, try voting local candidates and congressmen in.

Ross Perot was only a “viable” third party candidate in the sense that they could invite him to participate in the debates because he was physically “undesirable” and politically unelectable. It is only the third parties that have truly viable candidates in, all aspects of the phrase, that are not allowed to truly participate in the electoral process.
