Select a Candidate

A few days ago I was listening to a podcast while biking through Memorial Park all the way to the West Loop and in an extended PBS interview with Mike Gravel I was struck by how much I liked him (and of course how he had no chance in hell of being taken seriously, much less elected).

So, I was not surprised when he ended up at the top of the list after a short quiz on political views. There was also a perfect stratification of Dems at the Top and Reps at the bottom, with Ron Paul being the highest (R). It would have been interesting to have some 3rd party candidates in there, but with over a year until the election they’re not stupid enough to have any candidates yet (much less 10).

Hi Bill… I periodically check your site, just to keep up. Glad you are still living the good life. This is such a ridiculous process – everyone is going to be so sick of these people when the election rolls around, no-one is going to vote. I took this quiz the other day and my highest match was Edwards with 36. My hot button today is the lies mr bush told last week about the CHIP bill he’s about to veto. Don’t even get me started. Enjoy your weekend! – wendy

Dennis Kucinich has my vote (at least in the primary) and the quiz confirmed it. I think he should have a place in the administration even if he is not nominated for president. He would make a good VP for example.

As for the quiz, I didn’t like the questions. For example, the question on whether the govt should invest more in biodiesel/ethanol is too specific. If they said “alternative energy”, that would have been better.

I agree the questions were not ideal. When I didn’t like any of the answers, I weighted the question low.

“Do you support federal assistance for the production of ethanol …” I had to say ‘no’ because I think there are better ways to influence alternate fuels – the most straightforward is to raise gasoline taxes.
