The mass media are a bunch of corporate propagandists. When fascism takes over, they first go for the journalists, then the students (see the UFL student who got tasered on YouTube), etc... Dan Rather was the example who was used to show other journalists that they needed to stay in line or be kicked out. They chose Rather because it showed that no matter how visible, no matter what experience you have, if you don't report the news the way we want it, you're gone.
