slow bus a rollin’

Posted on January 29, 2004 at 4:56 pm in

Nothing like sleeping in past the AM rush schedule for the busses.
Then getting in a rush to get out the door just in time to see the 9:37 go by. Now I get to wait for the 10:17.

There was aparently a bad schedule I read that led me to believe my bus ran all night. It actually shuts off at 1:00 am. Although there is a 12:58 pickup scheduled for my outbound stop, it didn’t happen last night. After the 12:45 – 1:15 wait, which was totally enjoyable, watching all the madness, giving directions, seeing people I know drive by (seems I can’t wait for the bus without doing so). Had to cab home, $10. Nice guy, though. Ex millionaire engineer. I hear your pain, Mr. Cabbie.

I am the Hoi Polloi

Posted on January 29, 2004 at 8:39 am in

The Chronicle says:

“Most official Super Bowl parties this week are private, invitation-only soirees, such as Maxim and Playboy magazines’ celebrity-magnet events. Or they are free street bashes, such as the downtown Main Event concert jams, where few, if any, boldfaced name personalities will be mixing and mingling with Houston’s hoi polloi.” -chron

Come on down.
Dress warmly. And to keep out the rain.
Party, like it’s 1,999 of your best friends on a thursday. (7:30 – Molly & the Ringwalds)

Wait, wait: parse that WMD statement

If you didn’t hear Wait, Wait this weekend, you missed the Dean Scream Buzzer and attempts at immitation and an attempt to parse the administration’s latest statement on weapons of mass desctruction – worth the price of admission itself.

METRO

I’m taking METRO all week, not wanting to try to park downtown.

Last night, took the rail to the CC.
Got back downtown about 11:45.
It’s crazy down there already. Busy, crazy.

Not to mention the places that didn’t exist a week ago that are booming.

Also, they’ve got a pedestrian hip-rail up next to the light rail.
I asked, and it’s temporary, to be placed for events and pulled when there’s road traffic. Very good idea.

As for the yet-another-illegal-left accident yesterday: trains 11, idiots 0.

A long, busy day out of nowhere

Posted on January 26, 2004 at 7:12 am in

So, I had planned on going to the Big Top and prepping the bartop trim. But I also recalled that I had promised to replace a kitchen sink dispose-all for a friend this week and had been horribly otherwise busy.

So I called J. Nunnally to see what was up about 11am. “I’m at Ikea. I have $400 in gift certificates and I’m buying stuff for his house.” Bobby Mac being out of town, and J. Nunnally, his eX-but-still-friend house sitting for him. “I’m not sure how I’m gonna get the stuff back, though.”

I, of course, had dozens of things to do at the house, and had mentioned to Yo-yo, that I was planning on working at the CC/Big Top (but had made no specific plans or promises), so I offered “I’ll come help you”.

Number One. Ikea on a weekend should be avoided at all cost. O.K. that’s the only number that’s relevant. A long, busy day out of nowhere – continue reading …
